Part of the St. Thomas South Field Sports Complex, the South Softball Field is home to the St. Thomas softball team. Located on the University's scenic South Campus at the corner of Cretin and Grand, the South Field softball stadium provides an intimate atmosphere for Tommie softball.
Originally a natural field, the South Softball Field was renovated in 2013, making the move to Field Turf throughout, aside from the clay-based pitching circle. Not only was the turf a part of the upgrade, but new dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, and fencing were also a part of the renovation.
Since the 2013 renovation, the Tommies have settled in to their new-look home. Over the past six seasons, St. Thomas softball has amassed a home-field record of 82-11 for an .882 winning percentage. That span includes five MIAC regular season titles four playoff crowns.
South Field hosted its first MIAC Playoff weekend in 2016, the first of four straight seasons hosting the four-team double elimination tournament to decide the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. The Tommies also hosted their first NCAA Regional in 2018, advancing the the Super Regional, where they fell to Luther in a best-of-three series.
The following year, in 2019, South Field was the site of both a Regional and Super Regional after the Tommies advanced through the Tournament's first weekend. St. Thomas hosted UW-La Crosse in the best-of-three Super Regional series, sweeping the Eagles 2-0 to advance to the NCAA Division III Softball College World Series.
